Hey, I'm Ryland
I find the emotional core of a story and build everything around it.
I’m a Senior Editor at Visual+ Aid, a documentary and commercial production company, where I shape stories for brands, causes, and just for fun. Whether it’s an individual’s personal triumph, a community’s resilience, or the beauty of the natural world, I craft narratives that inspire action and deepen the connection between people and the world around them.
I’ve edited films illuminating adaptive reuse, normalizing mental health and rare childhood diseases, and bringing wildlife and wild-land conservation to life. I believe film has the power to drive meaningful change.
Outside of client work, I make documentaries I care about. My work has been a finalist at the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival and has screened at the Manchester, Eastern Oregon, Tacoma, and Manzanita film festivals, and premiered at the Portland Art Museum’s PAM CUT.
When I’m not working, I’m exploring the mountains and rivers with my wife and son.

Off the timelineWhen I'm not editing films, I leave the computer for a minute and wander the mountains. Some things I've seen along the way.
